Welcome to Books for YAs!

What’s “Books for YAs”? The YA (Young Adult) market for books is growing tremendously, and with that tremeondous growth comes lots of books to read, both good and bad. With stuff ranging from sparkly vampires and non-rotting zombies to teen wizards and mutants who just want to figure out life, it’s often daunting to find what you want.

That’s where this site comes in. I’ll be writing reviews about YA and MG (middle grade) books that are sorted by genre, as well as giving a brief idea of the content (is the romantic stuff tame or out of control? Is there too much violence, or a good supply of action? And so forth) and my impressions. I’ll also let you know if the book is part of a series or not. And along the way, I’ll throw in a few movie trailers and maybe some tech news, because I like that stuff, too.

Who am I? My name is Robin Armstrong, and I’ve been an avid reader all of my life. I’ve also been a Young Adult Librarian, have studied children’s and teen literature in college, and am the father of two teenage children. In short, I know a thing or two about what makes good YA books. Please let me know what you think!

Review: The 2012 Book Blogger’s Cookbook, compiled by Christy Dorrity

It seems like I’m either experimenting with different review styles or just reviewing items that are out of my usual range lately, as here’s another review outside my usual format. I was especially excited to do so because of the sneak peek at the new Transformers: Regeneration One …

Movie Trailer: Disney/Pixar’s Brave Trailer #3

This looks like it might be the final trailer for the upcoming Disney/pixar movie Brave. Check it out!     I found this posted at nodwick.com, a site where I usually find the latest news about entertainment and technology (and a few really good comics free on the Web, too). Anyway, I like how this …

Albrek's Tomb

Review: Adventurers Wanted: Albrek’s Tomb, by M. L. Forman

Why I’m reviewing this book: I’ve read the first two books in the Adventurers Wanted series, Slathbog’s Gold and The Horn of Moran (both of which I hope to review soon). Both are good books with lots of action, magic, and treasure, along with messages about honor, keeping your word, and being honest. Overall, it’s …

Transformers news: Possible title for 4th movie, new comics!

Image copyright Hasbro. While searching for the latest news about the recently announced Transformers 4 movie, I came across not one, but two Facebook pages about Transformers: The Rise of Galvatron. Both pages, however, are fan-made, and further searches don’t reveal anything official. There isn’t anything on IMDB, either. Still, is this just wishful thinking, …
